About This Course

The purpose of this course is to explain what a low vision home safety assessment entails and to provide information to the health care /rehabilitation professional working with a low vision individual of what to expect and how to perform a home safety assessment on a case by case basis. This course is broken into seven modules. The first four modules explain when a home safety assessment is appropriate, common visual impairments that may require a home assessment, modifications for common visual impairments, and common co morbidities that play a role in the clients functioning and the appropriate modifications. The fifth module breaks down the step by step process in performing a home safety assessment. The sixth module has a video with simulated home environments with a description of what areas to assess in specified rooms of a home. The seventh and final module contains interactive animated scenarios allowing modifications of the home environment. There are three case studies provided in this module that apply principles learned throughout the course.
